Pat Surtain Sr is a former American football cornerback who played for the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, and the San Francisco 49ers during his career in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on June 19, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Southern University, where he played college football as a defensive back.

Surtain Sr was drafted by the Dolphins in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to spend seven seasons with the team. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection from 2002 to 2004, and was recognized as a first-team All-Pro in 2002 and 2003.

After his stint with the Dolphins, Surtain Sr played for the Chiefs from 2005 to 2008 and the 49ers in 2009, before retiring from the NFL. He finished his career with 37 interceptions, four touchdowns, and 519 tackles.

In addition to his NFL career, Surtain Sr has also worked as a high school football coach in Florida, where he has helped develop several notable NFL players. His son, Patrick Surtain II, also followed in his footsteps and is currently a cornerback for the Denver Broncos in the NFL.
